Frequently Asked Questions About In-Office Whitening

Question: Why are my teeth stained?

Answer: There are actually quite a few reasons your teeth could be stained. The foods and drinks you consume, smoking, use of certain medications in childhood ( like tetracycline), or even injury to the teeth can cause unsightly stains to form. We will assess the factors behind your discoloration, as well as the severity of your stains, to decide which treatment you need.

Question: How does in-office whitening work?

Answer: First, we clean your teeth and apply a protective covering to your gums and lips. We then apply a hydrogen peroxide gel to the teeth, which is activated with a special laser. Finally, we remove the gel and apply a fluoride varnish to the teeth. The entire visit takes less than two hours and can often brighten teeth by multiple shades.

Question: How do I make my results last?

Answer: After you leave, start becoming focused on better oral maintenance from home. When you brush and floss daily and properly, you reduce the severity of plaque buildup, keeping your teeth brighter. You should also have your teeth professionally cleaned at our office once every six months.

Question: Can I continue to brighten my smile from home?

Answer: Yes. We will send you home with a set of trays and a bleaching gel so you can touch up your smile as necessary. If you have any questions about our office-based whitening procedures, then please contact our team today.
