Do You Qualify For Invisalign?

engelberginvisalignDo you have an uneven smile? If so, you may feel self-conscious about your appearance and take steps to hide your smile. Along with your appearance, misalignment can also affect the health of your smile, increasing the risk of oral health issues such as tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, and bruxism. As a practically invisible means of correcting uneven smiles, we may recommend Invisalign. Do you qualify for Invisalign?

What is Invisalign?

Traditional braces involve placing metal brackets onto the front of the teeth and connecting them with an arch wire. By adjusting the tension, the dentist or orthodontist can help reposition the teeth over a period of 18 months to two years, on average.

Clear braces don’t involve placing orthodontics onto the teeth. Instead, patients wear a series of clear plastic aligners, which reposition teeth over a period of a year to 18 months, depending the cause and severity of misalignment.

How Does Treatment Work?

First, the doctor will take images and impressions of the teeth. These will materials will be sent to the Invisalign lab, where the aligners will be carefully fabricated. The patient then wears the aligner for between 20 and 23 hour a day, removing them only for meals or when brushing/flossing teeth. About every two weeks the patient upgrades to a new set as his/her smile is corrected.

Are You A Good Candidate for Clear Braces?

Who makes a good candidate for this procedure? We typically look for:

  • Patients who are over the age of 16
  • Patients with minor alignment issues
