Can Dental Bonding Repair Teeth In One Visit?

engelberg bondingWhether you chip a tooth or have unsightly discoloration, you may need to visit your dentist to address your smile concerns. We understand that your schedule can be hectic. Fortunately, repairing your teeth doesn’t require multiple visits or procedures. In fact, we can use dental bonding to repair your teeth in one visit.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Bonding

Question: What happens during a bonding procedure?

Answer: First, the doctor will clean the tooth if necessary. Then, the tooth will be gently etched, as this helps the material better adhere to it. The doctor will apply several layers of composite resin, which is shaded to match your teeth. As the material cures under a light, the doctor sculpts and molds the tooth. Finally, the tooth is thoroughly polished for a lifelike appearance. The entire procedure, start to finish, just takes one visit.

Question: Can the procedure address discoloration?

Answer: Yes. Some forms of discoloration actually develop below the enamel and are known as intrinsic stains. Tetracycline, fluorosis, and injury to the tooth can all cause intrinsic discoloration to occur.  These stains may not respond well to traditional teeth whitening, but we can use bonding to mask their appearance.

Question: What if I have a chipped tooth?

Answer: We can use dental bonding to repair chipped teeth, protecting your smile from tooth decay and infection, which can develop as a result of damage. If the damage is severe, we may suggest a veneer or possibly a crown. Don’t ignore damage and allow a minor issue to progress into a serious one.

Question: Can the procedure close gaps between teeth?

Answer: We can also use this procedure to close gaps between the teeth, improving your smile’s appearance.
