The Clear Advantage of Invisible Braces

InvisalignThere are many reasons someone might want to turn to a dentist or orthodontist to straighten out their teeth. Some adults wish they would have had braces as children, and others had them, but found that their teeth moved again, over time. No matter the reason for chasing the dream of a straight smile, these days there are many more options than just the traditional bracket-and-wire variety of braces.

How Do Invisible Braces Work?

When you opt for Invisalign, your dentist will consult with you, and take impressions of your teeth that will be sent to a lab. With 3D computer imaging, you’ll be able to get an exciting look at the finished product of your future straightened teeth, before treatment even begins. A series of customized clear plastic aligners will be fashioned specifically for your orthodontic needs. Most patients require about a year with their aligners to see final results. Every two or three weeks, you’ll switch to the next clear plastic aligner in the series. Your dentist will want to see you every 6 weeks or so to make sure that everything is going smoothly with your invisible braces.

Who Are the Right Patients for Invisalign?

Invisalign is a terrific choices for issues with over-crowding, poor spacing, over-bites, cross-bites, and under-bites. Were you one of those childhood bracket-and-wire braces wearers that neglected to wear your retainer? Don’t feel ashamed. This is a common problem, and falls right in line with the way customized aligners work. Many patients find their favorite benefit of invisible braces is the fact that you can’t see them. You also get to take them out when you eat and brush your teeth, so struggling with picking food out of your braces and not being able to floss properly will not be concerns.
