Recently, we added a new cosmetic treatment to our practice. We now offer our patients Botox and dermal fillers. In addition to addressing facial esthetics, we can use this unique procedure to also treat oral health issues related to muscle strain. Should you try Botox? How does the procedure work?

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox

Question: How does Botox work?

Answer: Treatment involves administering a purified protein of the botulinum toxin. This protein then ceases the dynamic function in the muscles that cause wrinkles. As a result, we can then smooth wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes and mouth, helping you enjoy a more youthful appearance.

Question: How long do the results last?

Answer: The amount of time the treatment’s results will last will vary, but on average results can last between four and six months. Which means you can receive treatment during your routine checkup/cleaning visits to help you address facial wrinkles.

Question: Can this help address other dental-related issues?

Answer: The treatment was actually created to address issues with muscle strain, the cosmetic impact was only discovered later. As a result, we can also use them to relax muscles that are strained as a result of TMJ disorder. Patients can then have an easier time opening and closing their mouth and experience a reduction in soreness in the jaw or head.

Question: How do they differ from dermal fillers?

Answer: Dermal fillers are actually used to add volume, particularly to areas around the nose, mouth, and eyes. These treatments also help patients achieve a more youthful appearance.
