Rolling Meadows Cosmetic Dentist Changes Smiles for the Better

GroupOfWomenCosmetic dentistry has become more common over the years. A recent survey from the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) collected data showing that 96% of people in the American work force feel a smile is either somewhat or very important to one’s overall appearance. Scientific and psychological research suggests that grinning freely with a nice looking smile leads to trust, reduced stress, and longer, healthier lives. When someone is unhappy with the way their smile appears, they’re not likely to take advantage of this important reflex the way they should. Rolling Meadows cosmetic dentist, Dr. Brent Engelberg, is glad to help patients make the changes they desire in their smiles.

Nice Looking Smiles

A survey in 2011 from Cosmetic Dentistry State of the Industry showed widespread interest in smile makeovers. From under 20-years-old to over 60-years-old, the percentages ranged between 12 and 20 percent of people who said they were interested in making over their smiles. The survey also pointed out how influential people who had successful cosmetic dental procedures were on their friends and family. Aesthetics were naturally the biggest reason people gave for desiring cosmetic dentistry. Highest concerns were predictably expense and the possibility of something going wrong during the procedure. Pain levels and longevity of results were also on people’s minds when looking at cosmetic dentistry.

A Very Brief History

Cosmetic dentistry has been practiced for thousands of years. Certain procedures such as whitening and dentures have been traced all the way back to 700 B.C. The Etruscans fashioned dentures with ivory and bone, or a combination of human and animal teeth. Teeth whitening was attempted in a variety of ways, sometimes with very unusual materials including urine and acid. Fortunately, we’ve come a long way in cosmetic dentistry, and most procedures are done with high-quality materials such as peroxide, porcelain, and composite-resin, in a comfortable and pleasant environment.
