Do You Have Questions About Tooth-Colored Fillings?

Nearly all of us will develop a cavity at one point or another. When you do, a restoration is necessary to prevent a minor problem from progressing into something more serious, such as a dental infection. We offer a restoration known as a filling to repair decayed teeth. Do you have questions about tooth-colored fillings?

Common Questions About Tooth-Colored Fillings

Question: When do you recommend a filling?

Answer: A filling is typically prescribed when a tooth develops a cavity. However, we can use the same composite resin material in a cosmetic bonding procedure, allowing us to also address chipped teeth, as well as gaps between teeth and permanent discoloration.

Question: How do these differ from metal restorations?

Answer: Metal restorations are more visible, while our composite resin restorations are made from a metal-free composite resin that can be shaded to blend with your surrounding tooth structure. People enjoy the fact that the restorations are not noticeable.

Question: What does placement involve?

Answer: The entire process can be competed in a single visit. First, we remove any decay and thoroughly clean the tooth. We may also etch the tooth’s surface to help the material better bond with the tooth as we cure it. After applying the material, a light is used to cure it. During the curing process the doctor can also shape and sculpt the material. Finally, we polish the tooth.

Question: How do I prevent cavities in the first place?

Answer: By cutting back on sugary foods and drinks, brushing and flossing, and seeing you dentist every six months for a thorough checkup and cleaning, you can help limit the risk of cavities.
