Dentures Vs. Implant Dentures

Losing a significant number of natural teeth can mean problems eating a variety of foods, as well as communicating clearly. In order to replace these missing teeth, we may suggest dentures. We actually offer two different forms of full prostheses. Do you need dentures or implant dentures?

Removable Dentures

These are traditional dentures, replacing all of your teeth on one or both arches. The base will be made from acrylic and mimic the appearance of natural gum tissue. There will also be a full set of lifelike teeth. They are held in place with natural suction, or possibly the assistance of a special adhesive. The prosthetic will need to be removed for cleaning and typically last between 5 and 10 years before requiring adjustment or replacement.

Implant-Retained Dentures

Instead of relying of suction, the prosthetic is actually held in place with multiple dental implant posts. They will be fixed in place and unable to slip during meals or speech. Since the use of implants stimulates jawbone growth, the jaw doesn’t change shape and the prosthetic can potentially last a lifetime.

The Health Risks of Tooth Loss

Whether the removable or fixed dentures are the best choice for your smile, you need to have your missing teeth replaced. Otherwise, you can develop serious complications. Advanced tooth loss can lead to patients relying on soft foods, leading to poor nutritional intake. In addition, advanced tooth loss can also cause patients to take on an older appearance.
