5 General Dental Procedures

Restorative dentistry allows our team to repair damaged teeth, or teeth in poor health. Cosmetic dentistry allows us to improve the beauty of your teeth and gums. But what does general dentistry do? Simply put, general dentistry involves treatment designed to address common oral health issues or to help prevent problems from occurring in the first place.

General Dentistry

  1. Checkups and Cleanings: Every six months you should see the dentist for a checkup and cleaning. During the checkup portion, we will examine your smile for signs or possible problem areas. We look for far more than just tooth decay, as we can screen for oral cancer and periodontal disease as well. The cleaning involves removing plaque from your teeth, a major step in avoiding the onset of cavities and gum disease.
  2. Periodontal Treatments: If you develop gingivitis, we can use treatment to reverse the problem. If you already have gum disease, we can offer solutions to avoid the onset of periodontitis, the advanced stage often responsible for adult tooth loss.
  3. TMJ/Bruxism Treatment: These common jaw joint disorders can lead to serious discomfort, including trouble opening and closing the mouth, headaches, jaw pain, and toothaches. In addition, bruxism can actually damage teeth, increasing the risk of decay and infection. Fortunately, we can often address one or both disorder using a custom oral appliance.
  4. Sleep Apnea Treatment: Once again, a custom oral appliance comes in handy. We can use them to prevent future apneic episodes, allowing you to sleep without interruption and enjoy improved quality of life.
  5. Professional Breath Control: If you have persistent bad breath, don’t continue living with this embarrassing problem. Come see us to talk about our professional breath control options, as well as ways you can improve oral hygiene to fight halitosis!
