More than One Way to Straighter Teeth

beautiful straight smileFor some people, one or two crooked teeth are a defining characteristic of their smiles. For others, malocclusion (tooth misalignment) is a serious problem that affects their oral health and the way their mouths’ operate. In most cases, however, we offer several ways to straighter teeth that don’t involve cumbersome metal braces. Whether you wish for more discreet orthodontic treatment, or you want to skip orthodontics altogether, you might find the answer in Invisalign®, or in porcelain veneers (depending on the severity of your crooked teeth).

Several Degrees of Malocclusion

Like a cavity, or problems with your gum tissues, the alignment (or misalignment) of your teeth is unique, and can range from mild to severe. Teeth that are crooked enough to affect your smile’s appearance, but not enough to require completely repositioning your teeth, might be resolved with a cosmetic treatment. For adults and older teens who require teeth straightening, we also offer a clear alternative to braces in the form of invisible acrylic aligners.

The Cosmetic Solution

Aesthetics, or cosmetics, describes the outward beauty and symmetry of your smile. When your smile’s aesthetics are disturbed, either by discoloration or by slight misalignment, rejuvenating it can often be as simple as placing an appropriate number of porcelain veneers on their surfaces. The thin veneers made of porcelain can be bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth, creating a more symmetrical, more visually-appealing smile.

The Discreet Orthodontic Solution

While veneers can reinvent the look of slightly-crooked teeth, Invisalign clear braces are designed to address the actual problem of tooth misalignment by repositioning them. Instead of brackets and wires, however, Invisalign utilizes a custom-designed series of aligners that fit snugly over your teeth, and gently nudge your crooked teeth more desirable positions. The aligners can also be removed before eating or brushing your teeth, making it easier to maintain your hygiene than it would be with conventional braces.
