How Do You Remove Discoloration?

While teeth whitening products can be purchased at the store, often they fail to provide the same level of results as our professional systems. In addition, some stains can be severe and may not respond very well to them at all. Fortunately, we have two unique whitening options, as well as lifelike restorations, to remove or mask discoloration.

Frequently Asked Questions About Removing Discoloration

Question: How do teeth stains form?

Answer: Often, the food and drink we consume can lead to stains. For example, foods high in sugar can promote plaque buildup, which makes discoloration more apparent. In addition, drinks with dark pigments (soda, eta, coffee, fruit juice, and red wine) can lead to stains on the teeth. Other factors include smoking, injury to the teeth, fluorosis, and exposure to tetracycline at a young age.

Question: Can you remove stains quickly?

Answer: We can! Our in-office procedure involves applying a bleaching gel to the teeth and activating it with a curing light. We can brighten teeth by multiple shades in as little as one to two hours.

Question: Can I brighten my teeth at home?

Answer: That’s possible, too! We provide patients with a set of plastic trays and a bleaching gel. Each day, patients fill the trays with gel and wear them for around one or two hours. Optimal results usually take between one and two weeks.

Question: What if I have permanent teeth stains?

Answer: Permanent stains, also known as intrinsic stains, are those that form beneath the enamel. They can be difficult to remove. However, if our at-home system can’t address them, we can mask them with porcelain veneers, dental binding, or a combination of the two.
