How Do You Place Dental Implants?

People are often curious about what exactly the implant placement procedure involves. After all, these prosthetics are placed in a very different manner than a denture or a dental bridge. However, the results are a long lasting (a lifetime in many cases) and lifelike replacement tooth that can help preserve your facial structure. Do you want to learn more about what receiving one involves?

Consultation and Preparation

First, we will talk to you about your smile and what you hope to accomplish with treatment. We will examine your smile to see if this is the best choice for restoring missing teeth. If so, then we will work and oral surgeon for the placement process.

Oral Surgery

During this stage, an oral surgeon and periodontist will insert the dental implant into the jawbone.

Healing/Osseointegration

Once placed, you will need to allow between three and six months for the area to heal. During this stage, osseointegration takes place. The implant and jawbone tissue bond, securing the implant post like a natural tooth root. In addition, this process stimulates he growth of jawbone tissue, preventing the onset of facial collapse (which often follows untreated tooth loss).

Restoration

After the healing period, you will return to the office. We will then add an abutment to the post, which holds the restoration firmly in place. The restoration is in the form of a dental crown. Using lifelike ceramic, we can custom-made make a crown that will blend with your smile. The restoration will be able to withstand powerful bite forces and pressures, completing your new tooth. If you have multiple missing teeth, this stage may involve snapping a prosthetic onto multiple implant posts, completely restoring your smile with a fixed denture or bridged.
