How Do You Create Invisalign Aligners?

With braces, metal brackets and wires are used to correct misalignment and help patients enjoy a more esthetically pleasing smile. However, for adults and teens, metal braces may not be a preferred solution for correcting uneven smiles. Fortunately, we can offer an alternative with Invisalign, which instead uses clear plastic aligners. How do we create these aligners? What does the treatment process involve?

Frequently Asked Questions About Creating Clear Aligners

Question: Are they custom-made?

Answer: Yes! We will take digital impressions, as well as digital images and x-rays of your smile. At an Invisalign lab, these items will be used to create a series of aligners from a clear and BPA-free plastic material. Once complete, you will begin wearing them and start your journey towards a more even smile.

Question: How often do I wear them?

Answer: You should be wearing them daily. Each day, we expect you to wear them for between 20 and 23 hours. Remember, to see optimal results in the time frame you discussed with the dentist, you must wear the aligners. Of course, they can be removed for meals or when brushing and flossing your teeth.

Question: How long will my treatment last?

Answer: Total treatment time varies, depending on age and the extent of your misalignment. However, on average treatment tends to take about a year.

Question: What benefits does an even smile offer?

Answer: A smile free of misalignment looks better and has a lower risk of tooth decay and gum disease, as thorough brushing and flossing is much easier. In addition, correcting uneven smiles can relieve pressure on the jaw joints, reducing the risks of TMJ disorder and bruxism.
